"You eat enough, even your sweat will smell like Durian"
-- Uncle Charlie
"You know, after you eat Durian, you're not supposed to drink beer."
"Why?"
"Because you will die"
-- Uncle Charlie
For those of you who don't know, Durian is a tropical druit commonly eaten in South-Eastern Asia. It's got a really strong and (in my opinion) somewhat putrid smell. An interesting fruit though. Apparently, drinking beer after eating it will make you explode. My uncle Charlie is also an interesting man... funny as hell.
"When I get to know him
And find more things to say
One day I will reach him
There has to be a way
Everyone needs someone
He must need someone, too!
When I get to know him better
Here's what I will do
I'll read him stories
From picture books
All filled with wonder
Magic worlds where the impossible
Become the everyday
We'll find a mountain-top
And some moon-beams to sit under
I'll lead, because I know the way!
So much to discover
I do it all the time
I could live inside the pages
Where the words all rhyme
We will slay the dragons
I'll still follow him around
And he'll smile
Yes, he'll smile
As his dreams leave the ground!
Stories and stories
About mermaids, kings and sunken treasure
Magic worlds where the impossible
Become the everyday
I know a tiny place
Just a dot, too small to measure
I'll lead him there, I know the way!
Stories about heroes
Who overcame their deepest sorrows
They'll put hope into his heart again
To cherish everyday
He'll find a better world
And the strength to face tomorrow
I'm sure that when he knows the way
He'll want to stay... "

So...
It's been a while and that's because nothing has really happened worth telling. Birthdays are fun and all but somehow, I've gotten to the point where I think it's better to send something personal like an email or card or something instead of yelling it out to the world on blogger. Life's been slow... school days just aren't what they used to be.

And on top of that, my cymbal stand has gone kaput. I'm slowly having to replace practically every section of my drumset because it was of cheap manufacture to begin with.

FRIG!
I can't believe it.
See, at our MUN meeting, I was thrown into a rage because our Chair was under the impression that Gender "Equity" which was the topic assigned to us, was the same as Gender "Equality". I don't know who they were but that has got to be the most ridiculous thing I had heard all day. But apparently, it doesn't stop there. At the cowac website, where the people who set up the MUN conferences tell us about what we're assigned to, the topic has been changed from the October (the one just past) conference topic of "Gender Equity in Education" to the November (future) conference topic of "Gender Equality in Education"
WTF?!!!!!!
I simply cannot believe the ENTIRE Model United Nations committee is ignorant to the point that Equity and Equality are completely different issues! I think the delegates from TCMS are the ONLY people in the entire MUN to know the difference. No wonder our world is in chaos. Want to know the difference?
Equality: A state of being essentially the same in quantity, measure, status, or degree.
Equity: The application of justice influenced by principles of ethics and fairness, distinguised from the mechanical application of rules.
Now HOW can the people in charge of MUN even consider replacing "Equity" with "Equality" and believe that there's not difference between the two?! Need a real life example? Ok, say you have two people. One's a grownup, one's an infant. EQUALITY would be giving them the same amount of food at the dinner table. EQUITY would be giving the adult a bigger portion and the infant a smaller portion.
I rest my case. I'm starting to sound like Maddox, but this really bugs me.

Ah yes, the glorious month of October. Times of MUN conferences, long weekends, Frisbee Tournaments, Thanksgivings, 5 or 6 birthdays, and Halloweens.
So...
So... school's been ok I suppose. Spare period is the only thing that keeps me on top of my work cause Al-Geo's crazy hard. On top of sports, MUN, et al, it's really getting to be quite a handful.
